About Devon Dressage Diva
Just a bit about me:
I have been riding since I was 8 and now at 28 thats 20 years of horsey madness (i'm sure my parents just thought it was a phase!). Over the years I have ridden at 2 fantastic riding schools; Veryan Riding Centre in Cornwall which gave me a great grounding in the horse world and Oaklands Riding stables in Exeter where I am still having my weekly lessons. Despite having my own pony from the age of 13 I have never really been out competing, however I have recently caught the bug especially for Dressage! I wish I had got out more in years gone past but with horse health issues, education, money (or lack of) and no drive or buddy to show me the ropes I am now more determined to crack on with what I want to do and hope to share with you the ups & down, my experiences and just general horsey goings on.
My Horses:
Lola, 12 yrs, 15hh Irish Mare,:
Only got one horse at the moment, well half really as she is a part ownership with Oaklands riding school so by day she is a riding school horse and by night a dressage diva! Although I think she would much rather be charging round a course of cross country jumps!
Past horses:
Bryher: 12-16yrs, 15.2hh IDXTB dark bay mare
Bryher was my second horse, bought when I was 16 to share with my mum who only started riding because she got bored/cold waiting for me to finish my lessons. We wanted something we could share and I had plans to head off to University so didn't want it just sat in a field doing nothing. Unfortunately Bryher ended up suffering with episode of laminitas with the final one causing significant changes in her feet and a diagnosis of cushings. We started a course with a remedial farrier and things looked to be turning a corner with hope to for her to be a happy hacker however she ended up getting blood poisoning and was PTS
Falcon: 18+ 14hh fleabitten grey gelding
My first pony! My parents finally gave in to the all the nagging and realised it wasn't just a phase, helped somewhat by having a time helping a lady with one of her ponies proving that I was obsessed (sorry I mean would put the effort in!) Being a older boy he knew his job was a rock solid pony, although he liked to test new riders so he didn't last long on working livery! After a few years he suddenly lost a lot of condition and the vet said he had a thickening of the intestinal wall so we changed his diet and kept him in light work for quite a while but one day had a bad bout of colic and with his pre-existing condition the vet couldn't be sure it wouldn't keep happening on a regular basis so he was PTS
